Wellness Supported by Chiropractic

Meditating on a mountain.

Your health is so important. But why would you see a chiropractor when you are healthy?

“The preservation of health is easier than the cure for disease”

- B.J.Palmer

So why would you see a chiropractor if you’re already healthy?

Then again what is healthy?

It’s an interesting question. People often respond with feeling good, looking good and being pain-free.

Now while I agree they are great measurements of health, unfortunately, it’s not that simple.

Only 10% of your nervous system has pain receptors, which means a lot can be going on without, or before, you feel any pain. And at the beginning, all diseases start without any symptoms anyway.

D. D. Palmer founded chiropractic in 1895 on the premise that “good health can be sustained naturally, without drugs or surgery.”. In other words, a belief that your body has innate wisdom, and in the right environment will keep itself healthy. As we know, when you cut yourself and take the plaster off a few days later, it’s not the plaster that’s done the healing!

So how does that work?

Chiropractic looks at the relationship between structure (your spine) and function (coordinated by your nervous system), and how that relationship affects the restoration and preservation of your health.

Your brain and spinal cord make up your central nervous system. And all the nerves branching out from your spine (your peripheral nerves), extend to every tissue, organ and system in your body. Everything your body does, such as breathing, sleeping, digesting, growing and healing (just to name a few!) is controlled by your nervous system.

Your brain uses your spine as a channel of communication. So if your spine isn’t moving well this creates a breakdown in that communication and eventually a breakdown in the level your body will function at.

At Ellerslie Chiropractic we improve the communication within your body, which improves your level of health and function as your body is better able to accurately perceive what’s going on and respond appropriately.

A quote from B. J. Palmer (son of the founder) that puts it in perspective for me is:

“Many of us take better care of our automobiles than we do our own bodies, yet the auto has replaceable parts.”

Chiropractic can work with you to improve and maintain your health and happiness, whatever your level at the moment.
